BUNNED UP
BUNNED UP

A good friend of ours was gracious enough to snap some family photos of us this particular day. What's sad is that out of all of the photos we've snapped in the last year, these were like.. the first 'official' photos we've taken.

LATELY...
LATELY...

Uuugh... can I be honest? I really just haven't been in the mood to write. Perhaps, yet again, I haven't properly managed my time in order to remain consistent. I refuse to use the excuse I haven't had enough time. After all, we make time for the things we truly care to make time for, right?

I recently read a post from a blog that I subscribe to which spoke about people using the excuse of being busy as to why certain things are delayed or don't get done--returned phone calls, e-mails, appointments... blogging.

IT'S A MYSTERY
IT'S A MYSTERY

I've accepted that since I've become a mom, presents for me are scarce... and that's fine. I'm grateful that people think enough of my son to buy him gifts. Imagine my surprise when my god mother pulls out a gift for me at Christmas--the super fab sweater pictured above.

DOT, DOT, DOT...

Well, Happy New Year to you! I took a week off from blogging and just about all things social media related... to just be present with my family. We can get so caught up trying to remain present on social media--for people we do not know--and we can lose sight of the things that are most important.

LOST FILES: 33 Weeks, 6 Days Pregnant
LOST FILES: 33 Weeks, 6 Days Pregnant

I was just about ready to pop... nearly fully cooked. In fact, I delivered Max exactly one month after this photo was taken, and I had just about exhausted my non-maternity wear. This was Super Bowl Sunday, and we had just left church and were on our way to watch the game.

WOLF PACK ONLY
WOLF PACK ONLY

It's officially fall in LA--winter elsewhere. Yes, the leaves do turn... yes, it's 75 degrees the week of Christmas. Speaking of which, I'm not feeling particularly Christmasy this year. There's no tree here and, Max needs not one thing.

COLOR ME THIS
COLOR ME THIS

Let's rewind... all the way back to the early 2000s... when I purchased this sweatshirt. It's that old, yet timeless... if a sweatshirt could be considered timeless. I'd much rather prefer timeless than hoarded because after you've had an item this long--from the sweats category--it's definitely in the running for the latter.  Is it vintage yet?

SEEIN' SPOTS
SEEIN' SPOTS

The last time I had this dress on was July 2013--I was pregnant and had no clue! We found out just a few days after. This was the first time I've had it on since then; well, because it's the first time it has fit since then.

FATIGUED

I can't tell you the last time I purchased anything full-price from Gap. EVERYTHING eventually goes on sale, so I exercise some self control and hold out for the markdown. These fatigues were no different.

WELL, RED (A PLAY ON WORDS)
WELL, RED (A PLAY ON WORDS)

If you follow my Tumblr , you'll know this is my absolute favorite, favorite hat. It's been all over the world in the years I've had it ,and I plan to wear until it has no more wear in it.  It goes with everything, and living in SoCal gives me the advantage of kinda wearing it all year.

Max puts everything he can get his hands on... into his mouth... everything. And who loves statement necklaces? Me. But having an 9 month-old constantly tugging at them gets old quickly.

STONES N' STRIPES

May I speak candidly for a moment a moment? Of course, I can. I've always been hesitant about going bra-less. I'm just not a bra-less type of girl--I needs me some good support, OK?  And I'm just not comfortable being the silent siren for the AC being too high.

I love clothes, shoes, accessories... that have a story. For me, there's nothing like putting on an outfit and recalling where a particular piece came from, or what I was doing at that time in my life when I purchased them. My top and shoes immediately came to mind when looking over these photos.

HARDLY HOME...
HARDLY HOME...

I do.. I hella love Oakland, and these days, it's a little harder to get home as often as I'd like.  You know how life happens and whatnot. I try not to beat myself up too much about it. There's a lot more to balance as a new mom and I have to remember to give myself credit for that.

I'M BACK
I'M BACK

So, I feel like I need to reintroduce myself. Besides some posts from IG, I haven’t posted any outfit photos since I gave birth in March. I have to admit, it’s challenging balancing my relationship with God, motherhood, my relationships and all the other curve balls life has been throwing my way lately.

N O T E T O S E L F | “Stop talking yourself out of opportunities because you don’t feel like you are “ready” yet. It’s time to jump. You are ready now.” -unknown

That quote found me shortly after I saw @myleik’s post about the #mtyretreatcontest earlier this week. Would you believe that before this opportunity, I’d never used a lighting ring or edited a video? EVER. Look what happens when you get out of your own way; when you realize your voice is as important as anyone else’s; when you endeavor in excellence because you know you deserve a seat at the table, too. Had I let this pass again—I was pregnant last year—I would have only let myself down. And THAT’S scarier than sitting in front of a camera talking about myself.

Check my stories for more BTS. Thank you for this opportunity, Myleik! Thanks for challenging me to show up for myself. I already won. | 🎥: 🙋🏾‍♀️

#mtyretreatcontest #momsincolor #blackmomsbreastfeed #dropthecover #mompreneur (EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT!!!) “Through social media, Black consumers have brokered a seat at the table and are demanding that brands and marketers speak to them in ways that resonate culturally and experientially if these brands want their business. And with African Americans spending $1.2 trillion annually, brands have a lot to lose.” —Neilson Holdings.

We are beyond honored to host a very special influencer gathering and live podcast recording centered around virtual sisterhood, self-love, and demanding our worth within the online marketplace.
✨✨✨✨
“Like most black influencers, I have experienced brands who have attempted to undercut. I have experienced brands who offer free product in exchange for multiple posts that will live on my feed forever. I have experienced brands who will ask me to post to my platform and in turn will never post myself or black moms who look like me on their feed. I have experienced brands and ALLIANCES (they know who they are) who have passive aggressively stolen my creative work. There are so many stories. I am not the only one. It is time for us to begin demanding our worth. It is time for us to start speaking up. It’s time for change. Here’s to gathering all the #BlackGirlMagic in one room.”

#MomsInColor #BlackGirlMagic S H I N I N G | Reminding myself this New Year that I’m always a work in progress, and that January 1st was just another Tuesday because the work is never done. Spending my days being intentional and trying to get more me-time away from all these kids (2 kids—just 2). | What have you been intentional about in these first 20 days of the new year?
. . .
#newyear #2019 #allthesekids #selfcare #intentionalliving T O P 9 | My Mamaw always shows up for me. My foundation. She wouldn’t let the year end without letting me know she’s always right here.

Sometimes, I need perspective. Perspective for when I ridiculously try to figure out what I’ve done with my year and how I could have done more. In March, I launched a business (@momsincolor) with 4 ah-mazing women AND had a baby—so I gave birth twice *drops mic*. We hosted 5 events between March and October of this year and had more planned, but decided we’d done plenty. The reminders are necessary because I have the habit of always needing to be busy—doing something. I spent much of 2018 nursing, and guess what? That’s a lot of work! 🗣 Keeping a human baby alive is HARD WORK. Growing someone from 5lbs to 15+lbs with nutrients, solely from my body, is hard work. Thank you to my husband for keeping space to allow my experience to be what I wanted. Then, I’m also teaching a four year old to read, so there’s that. *send help* | You know what, Amber? You f*ckin’ slayed 2018. What reminder did you need as you reflected on this year?

#newyear #newgoals #thelittlemilkbar #milkmaker #dropthecover #normalizebreastfeeding #blackmomsbreastfeed #momsincolor S H O R T S H O R T S | I love clothes with a story. Would you believe these shorts are my mother’s? From high school?! This was also shortly before I found out I was pregnant with P. Needless to say, they’re packed away. You know—because... winter. | Do you even tease yourself prematurely trying on pre-pregnancy clothes? . . .
#throwback 1 0 0 | My Mamaw would have celebrated her 100th birthday today. And I don’t want this to be a sad post, but I’m still sad. Just less. But still really sad. We would have thrown her an extravaganza, and she would have danced and had a tiara. She loved those. She makes my heart smile. My favorite. | #mamaw #happy100th C H E E R S | Happy Holidays from our family to yours!!!! #bossmomnation #bossmom #ootd #outfiteveryday #momsincolor #whatiwore F A S H I O N P H I L O S O P H Y | I’m not an impulse shopper. Namely because I don’t like returning stuff—if I buy it, I fully intend on keeping it. No buyer’s remorse over here. I looked for these Zara boots for almost 2 seasons before I found them on @poshmark—brand new, never worn and a fraction of the retail price. If I there’s one thing that chaps my ass, it’s seeing something I paid full price for—on sale. So I normally wait. If I eventually find it, like these boots, it was meant to be. If not, on to the next item. | Do you have a shopping philosophy? Something that helps you exercise some self control. Or do you just buy all the things?

#fashionphilosophy #style #fashion #fallboots #zara #poshmark #ootd #kotd E R G O | Did you know you can nurse in your @ergobaby Omni 360 carrier? Special thank you to @kellyamcknight and the Ergobaby team for inviting us to shoot nursing videos.

And although my personal style has changed, I’m intentional about my wardrobe—especially through my body changes. I couldn’t put so much into rearing children, then look in the mirror and not recognize myself. | What have you been intentional about in parenthood?
. . .
#momsincolor #postpartumstyle #oldnavy #zara #target #ootd #whatiwore #intentionalliving M A M A ‘ S O U T | That smile when you were intentional about getting out of the house sans kids. Thanks @hatchgal for inviting @momsincolor to the Brentwood store grand opening. | 📷: @bfa.
